Prof. Lovato graduated from the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy in 1984.
From 1984 to 1991 he was a staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager for a large national retail pharmacy.
Long term care was fortunate to procure Prof. Lovato's services as a consultant pharmacist in 1991. Since then he has become director of a long term care pharmacy serving more than 3000 beds, including patients from nursing home facilities, residential care homes, PACE programs, hospice agencies, clinics, and other institutional settings in several states.
While working as a consultant pharmacist he implemented one of the first pharmacist-operated anticoagulation clinics in the Southwestern United States. He also produced and conducted many educational courses for nursing staff at long term care facilities, both locally and regionally.
Prof. Lovato developed and implemented the Medication Aid Training Program for the State of New Mexico.
Prof. Lovato is currently on the clinical staff at the the University of New Mexico. He regularly teaches courses in institutional health care.
Prof. Lovato has been a licensed pharmacist clinician since 1996. He is also certified in geriatric pharmacology.
Prof. Lovato is and member and fellow of the ASCP. He is also a member of the ASHP and the American Society of Geriatrics.
Prof. Lovato is a clinical research coordinator for several past and on going studies. He has made presentations at national meetings regarding his clinical research.
