Objectives
During the externship students will gather data and assess patients' drug-related problems, develop pharmaceutical care plans for patients, recommend therapeutic drug monitoring plans, assess and modify drug therapy regimens, and demonstrate an awareness of assessment skills necessary to monitor medication outcome.
Format
Students will be given credit for prior learning, based on a submitted portfolio, in order to fulfill this requirement. Students not meeting the requirements for such credit will have to remain employed as a pharmacist (Rio Grande College of Pharmacy does not provide any employment assistance), in an environment suitable to meet the objectives, for a maximum period of five months. Prior approval from the instructor is required for employment settings. Once in an approved employment setting, students will be required to submit periodic reports of learning achieved through workplace experiences. All grades are pass/fail.
